Applications are invited for an academic position with the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta and the Departments of Cardiac Sciences and Medicine at Alberta Health Services and the University of Calgary. This will be a major clinical appointment at the Clinical Assistant Professor level (or higher) for an outstanding adult congenital cardiologist. The position will be based at Peter Lougheed Centre located in Calgary, Alberta.

The successful candidate will have completed an accredited training program in Adult Congenital Heart Disease and demonstrate expertise in all aspects of Adult Congenital Cardiology with a specific expertise in facilitation of transition from paediatric to adult cardiology. Clinical responsibilities will include participation in the Adult Congenital Heart Disease and Arteriopathy clinics and the interpretation of ACHD echocardiograms. As well, there will be both daytime and overnight responsibilities for in-patient general cardiology clinical services, as well as ambulatory care consultative opportunities. The extent of clinical services can be adjusted according to the academic expertise and career path of the applicant.

The successful candidate will be part of the Libin Institute of Alberta. Current membership includes over 150 investigators and their research teams with a broad range of interests in cardiovascular medicine. The Institute is housed within the rapidly growing Faculty of Medicine that has recently added 2 new research complexes to its already outstanding facilities. Candidates may be eligible to participate in the Alternate Relationship Plan that provides competitive salary support. Calgary is a vibrant, multicultural city of more than 1,000,000. Health care facilities provide service to a regional population of approximately 2 million. Calgary enjoys close proximity to Banff National Park and beautiful Lake Louise. Opportunities for recreational activities in the city and nearby Rocky Mountains are outstanding.

Qualifications include an MD, training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology and level III Echocardiography accreditation in addition to completion of an accredited training program in Adult Congenital Heart Diesase. A record of excellence in clinical research with a focus on transitional health is desirable.
The candidate must be eligible for independent Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

This is a Fee For Service position. As well, the Practitioner will support the specialist on-call program.

In partnership with the Alberta Medical Association, AHS helps facilitate the retention benefit program for physicians. This program is used to encourage retention by giving physicians a financial incentive if they billed more than $80,000 in clinical income the previous calendar year and are still working as of January 1 of the current calendar year.
The Practitioner is responsible for purchasing health and insurance benefits.
Continuing Medical Education reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible Practitioner receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for three years.
