Clinical Associate

Critical Care Medicine
Part Time Practice
2017-12-12  Time: 23:59
AHS is recruiting for this position.
AHS Sponsorship for CPSA Practice Readiness Assessment is not offered for this position.

The Department of Critical Care Medicine is currently recruiting Clinical Associates for the Intensive Care Units at all adult sites within the Calgary Zone.

We require clinical associates to provide service from 1700 to 0800 hours, seven days a week in the 4 multisystem ICUs of the Zone and day shifts (0800-1700) in two of these ICU’s. Physicians will be integrated into the current physician healthcare team, including bedside physicians, residents and attending intensivists.

As part of a specialized multidisciplinary team, the clinical associates’ role, in addition to patient care responsibilities in the unit, will be to provide tier one responses for all ICU Outreach Team calls within the institution. These teams were created as a patient safety initiative to advance the “ICU without walls” concept. Activation of the outreach team can occur by any concerned staff member on any unit of an acute care facility. The team is expected to rapidly assess and stabilize the patient, assist with communication, educate and support staff who have activated the team and assist with transferring the patient to the ICU when necessary (25 – 30% cases).

Physicians must be eligible for an Independent Practice Permit from College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta, CHR Medical Staff Privileges, appropriate Canadian Medical Protective Association coverage, and ACLS certification.

The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

Must read, write and speak English.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and Permanent Residents will be given priority.

- CME opportunities are encouraged and supported

- Crisis Resource Management training provided via high fidelity simulation (on-site)

- additional support always available through function in the ICU team environment

The Practitioner is responsible for purchasing health and insurance benefits.

Continuing Medical Education reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible Practitioner receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for three years.
