Applications are invited for an academic position with the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta and the Department of Cardiac Sciences at Alberta Health Services. This will be a clinical appointment at the Clinical Assistant Professor level (or higher) for an outstanding Cardiologist. The position will be based at the Foothills Medical Centre located in Calgary, Alberta.

The successful candidate will have completed Internal Medicine and Cardiology training with board certification as well as further training in Advanced Cardiac Imaging such as CT and Nuclear Medicine and Advanced Heart Failure. Clinical responsibilities will include [6-8 weeks of General Cardiology in-service coverage and reading Cardiac CT and Nuclear Medicine tests and coverage of the Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant service. There will be both daytime and overnight responsibilities for in-patient general cardiology clinical services, as well as ambulatory care consultative opportunities.

The successful candidate will be part of the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta. Current membership includes over 150 investigators and their research teams with a broad range of interests in cardiovascular medicine. The Institute is housed within the rapidly growing Faculty of Medicine that has recently added 2 new research complexes to its already outstanding facilities. Candidates may be eligible to participate in the Alternate Relationship Plan that provides competitive salary support. Calgary is a vibrant, multicultural city of more than 1,000,000. Health care facilities provide service to a regional population of approximately 2 million. Calgary enjoys close proximity to Banff National Park and beautiful Lake Louise. Opportunities for recreational activities in the city and nearby Rocky Mountains are outstanding.

Qualifications include an MD, training in Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Advanced Cardiac Imaging and Heart Failure and transplant Fellowship. A record of excellence in clinical research with a focus on transitional health is desirable.

Eligibility for medical licensure in the Province of Alberta is required.

In partnership with the Alberta Medical Association, AHS helps facilitate the retention benefit program for physicians. This program is used to encourage retention by giving physicians a financial incentive if they billed more than $80,000 in clinical income the previous calendar year and are still working as of January 1 of the current calendar year.

The Practitioner is responsible for purchasing health and insurance benefits.
