The Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine (https://cumming.ucalgary.ca/anesthesiology/) in partnership with the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute (ACHRI: http://research4kids.ucalgary.ca), Cumming School of Medicine , University of Calgary, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track academic position at the Assistant Professor level, in the area of pediatric pain with expertise in Developmental Neurosciences. This position will involve the development of an independent research program in the field of pediatric pain; however, it is expected that the successful candidate will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team of basic scientists, clinician investigators and clinicians conducting translational research within ACHRI and the Vi Riddell Pain Program, at the Alberta Children’s Hospital.

The successful candidate will join an established multidisciplinary and inter-Faculty team of child health researchers committed to collaborative fundamental and translational research activities that span the biological and psychosocial spectrum of child and youth pain research. The position provides 80% protected time for research and an excellent opportunity to establish a vigorous, sustainable, externally funded research program. The candidate will contribute to teaching and graduate student supervision within a dynamic and collaborative environment. The candidate will have access to state of the art core infrastructure. Outstanding opportunities for collaboration are also available with established research programs including, but not limited to anaesthesia, developmental paediatrics, clinical psychology, developmental neuroscience, medical imaging, genomics and novel pain therapeutics. Collaboration is encouraged with the pediatric and adult pain programs within Alberta Health Services.

Qualifications must include a Ph.D, an outstanding record of research productivity with publications in high impact journals, demonstrated success in the acquisition of external research funding and awards. Contributions to trainee supervision, mentorship and teaching will be expected. An ability to initiate collaborations and work successfully in multidisciplinary teams is essential. Previous research experience spanning the spectrum of childhood to adolescence and acute and chronic pain (acute to chronic) is an asset.
