The Section of Endocrinology, Department of Pediatrics, Alberta Children’s Hospital, Alberta Health Services (Calgary Zone), and the University of Calgary invite applications for a 0.2FTE clinical position, at the Clinical Assistant Professor level. The position involves 100% time for clinical activity in our multidisciplinary clinic dedicated to serve children with concerns related to their gender identity.

The 0.2 FTE will comprise one half day clinic per week (on average) with associated time for charting, reviewing labs and adjusting medications.

The successful candidate would join our Section of 6 academic pediatric endocrinologists and 1 community pediatric endocrinologist. We are a dynamic group with strong interest in research and teaching. The ideal candidate will have interest and skills working with children who have gender dysphoria. Specific training and/or experience in medical management of transgender adolescents and youth, including use of GNRH agonists for puberty cessation and application of hormones where appropriate, is a major asset. Candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists, nurses and other endocrinologists. While the successful candidate will not have a primary role in counseling and mental health management it would be an asset to have expertise in the needs and challenges associated with caring for adolescents and teens.

The Section of Pediatric Endocrinology is based at the state-of-the-art Alberta Children’s Hospital (ACH). Service population includes the Calgary zone, southern Alberta, southwestern Saskatchewan, and southeastern British Colombia (for a total of approximately 2+ million).

Calgary is a modern and rapidly growing cosmopolitan municipality located in Alberta with a population of over 1.2 million people, and boasts an excellent school system (both public and private), a vibrant international cultural scene, with proximity to the Canadian Rockies (Banff and Jasper National Parks). Calgary is beautifully laid out with rivers, parks and other recreational areas. There are plentiful opportunities for delving into the arts, music and sports. Many attributes contribute to an overall outstanding quality of life.

Qualifications include an MD, certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Pediatrics, or equivalent.
