The Department of Surgery, Section of Plastic Surgery, and Alberta Health Services invite applications for a clinical faculty position as a PLASTIC SURGEON at the South Health Campus in Calgary, Alberta, joining an existing group of five surgeons.

This locum will cover the busy hand/wrist and general plastic surgery practice of a plastic surgeon who will be on academic leave from July 1, 2020 – June 30, 2021. The general plastics side of this practice includes breast reconstruction and transgender medicine.

The successful candidate must be eligible for independent Licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and must hold Fellowship certification in Plastic Surgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Competence in hand surgery, microsurgery, and reconstructive breast surgery is also required. The surgeon will be expected to participate actively in undergraduate and resident education.
The successful candidate will have an on-site office and be provided with operative and ambulatory clinic privileges at the South Health Campus. The surgeon will be expected to participate in the plastic surgery and hand surgery call schedules at the South Health Campus. The successful applicant will be expected to fulfill the clinical obligations of the surgeon on leave including performing surgery on currently booked and new plastic surgery patients, follow-up of existing patients and consultation on new patients, overseeing residents and medical students and taking part in the Section on-call schedule.

This is a Fee For Service position. As well, the Practitioner will support the specialist on-call program.

The Practitioner is responsible for purchasing health and insurance benefits.

The AMA, through the Continuing Medical Education (CME) program, reimburses eligible physicians for costs incurred with regard to the maintenance and enhancement of knowledge, skills and competency.

The annual allotment of $2656 carries forward for three years but expires on March 31 of the fourth year if not used.
