The University of Calgary, Department of Psychiatry in collaboration with Alberta Health Services is inviting applications for Geriatric Psychiatrists with an interest in a 1 year locum position, focusing on community based patients and subacute in-patient practice.

This one year locum position, commencing in September 2017 will entail working as part of interdisciplinary teams servicing community clients (including those residing in assisted living facilities) and to act as a consultant psychiatrist to Rehab and Recovery Unit located at Glenmore Carewest. This is a 20 bed, subacute unit that operates under a shared care model and provides group therapy to clients with primary mood disorders. Candidates will be expected to participate in weekly team conferences.

The position will involve participation in the Department of Psychiatry’s general call roster , with base from the Rockyview General Hospital. Remuneration is based on a fee-for service basis as well as sessional payments to cover travel time to client homes and non-billable activities.

The successful candidates must have or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Preferred candidates will have completed advanced training in Geriatric Psychiatry or have a Geriatric Psychiatry background, and must have specialist qualifications, such as FRCPC or equivalent.

Candidates with an interest in working as part of an interdisciplinary team, enthusiasm with teaching and experience in leadership roles are preferred

Successful candidates will be expected to seek a Clinical Teaching Appointment within the Department of Psychiatry, which will be considered a separate process via the University of Calgary.

The successful candidates must have or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Preferred candidates will have completed advanced training in Geriatric Psychiatry or have a Geriatric Psychiatry background, and must have specialist qualifications, such as FRCPC or equivalent.

Interested candidates should submit a curriculum vitae outlining experience, and three reference letters, by June 1, 2017; however, the competition will remain open until the position is filled.

The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

Must read, write and speak English.

The Practitioner is responsible for purchasing health and insurance benefits.

Continuing Medical Education reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible Practitioner receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for three years.
