Urgent Care Physician - Locum

Alberta Health Services (AHS) is inviting applications from family or emergency physicians with a background in urgent or emergency care to join the Department of Family Medicine in Calgary.

This position will provide temporary locum coverage (including days, evenings, and weekends) from June 1, 2018 –January 30, 2019 at the South Calgary Health Centre (SCHC) Urgent Care Centre (UCC). The expected workload is 12-14 shifts per month from June through August, and 2-6 shifts per month for September through January 2019.

The SCHC UCC is a vibrant and energetic high-volume site with a wide variety and complexity of patient presentations which operates from 08:00 until 22:00 daily, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The site features lab and x-ray services and full time orthopedic technologist services while utilizing an electronic medical record.

The site has dual physician coverage at all times, with a third physician providing “fast track” service during peak periods.

The successful physician must be able to fill the scheduling requirements as described above and will integrate seamlessly into a fast paced multidisciplinary team environment including licensed practical nurses (LPNs), nurse practioners (NPs), orthopedic technicians (OTs), and registered nurses (RNs).

Required Qualifications:

The successful applicant will:

- be certified in Family Medicine with the Canadian College of Family Physicians or certified in Emergency Medicine with the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians

- hold active licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta

- have current medical liability insurance coverage

- demonstrate strong, clear communication skills including written, auditory, and verbal

- have greater than one year of experience in an Urgent Care or Emergency Room setting

- be certified in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support

Preferred Qualifications:

- Familiarity with information technology systems, such as Netcare, SCM, SEC, and PACS

- Previous experience providing urgent or emergency care to pediatric patients

- CCFP (EM) designation

Fee for Service.

The Practitioner is responsible for purchasing health and insurance benefits.

The AMA, through the Continuing Medical Education (CME) program, reimburses eligible physicians for costs incurred with regard to the maintenance and enhancement of knowledge, skills and competency.

The annual allotment of $2656 carries forward for three years but expires on March 31 of the fourth year if not used.
