We are looking for a physician with training in Family Medicine who will practice in a office based Family Medicine clinic and local health care facilities.

This position requires a scope of practice that includes inpatient, outpatient, acute, long term care, and emergency room shifts and on-call. Candidates require recent and relevant experience in all scopes of practice to be performed.

Available Specialty Services (full-time and part-time):
There are no long term care spaces in the hospital; however there is a considerable number of geriatric clients in the surrounding area. There are 10 Post Op Orthopedic rehab spaces whereby the clients are transferred in from Camrose or Edmonton post-op

Full time GP and General Surgeon currently provides services including appendectomy, Hernia repair, lap tubals, C-Sections, T&A

Endoscopy and colonoscopy services are provided by a visiting physician from Camrose every 2 weeks.

Surgery is also provided every 2 weeks by a visiting surgeon from Camrose- Breast reductions, panniculectomies, lap tubals, Lap Cholecystectomies.

Gyn surgery is provided every 2 weeks by a visiting surgeon from Camrose- including hysterectomy, A & P Repair, Endometrial Ablation.

Radiology Services:
Diagnostic Imaging

Laboratory Hours of Operation: 0700-1700 during week / 0700-1200 Sundays / On-call 24/7

Kidney Dialysis Unit on Site: No
If No, approximate travel to the nearest service: 45 Minutes (Wetaskiwin)

Cancer Treatment Services Available on Site: No
Approximate travel to the nearest service: 20 Minutes (Camrose)

All applicants must hold licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta, or a valid and relevant Notification of Eligibility Letter from the CPSA.

Required certifications, skills and experience:

Recent experience ( 6 months within the last 12 months) of independent Family Medicine practice where the physician has been the most responsible physician for a wide range of Family Medicine patients.
Applicant must also be able to provide proof of participation in relevant Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs.
Emergency on-call experience that covers trauma, medical, surgical and pediatric emergencies within the last 12 months is required

Strongly Recommended:

Canadian College of Family Physicians (CCFP) certification preferred
Additional training in Family Medicine/General Practice
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) course taken and renewed within the previous two years

Compensation Type: Fee-for-Service

On Call Stipend

GP on Call: Yes Physicians are remunerated for being on call in the Emergency Room. The rate is $23.84 an hour and is paid for a total of 14 hours on weekdays from 5 pm to 7am and 24 hours a day on weekends and statutory holidays. Frequency of on call shifts vary by community.

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside in this community of $10,448.33 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 9.94% for insured services provided in this community. Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.

Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.

Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,500 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.

Parental Leave Program - provides $1,000 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.

Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
