Urologist – Male Reconstructive

Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry - Department of Surgery

The Division of Urology, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta, and Alberta Health Services – Edmonton Zone, are accepting applications for an academic Urologist with training in Male Reconstructive Urology. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed a Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgery (GURS) fellowship. Current enrollment or completion of a Master’s program, with a preference for a theme involving Quality Improvement is required. The successful applicant will be based primarily at the University of Alberta Hospital with a flexible start date of approximately July 1, 2019.

The position will have a job description that includes a commitment to clinical care delivery, education, and research. The successful candidate will care for surgical inpatients and outpatients, as well as participate in the on-call rotation supporting the University of Alberta Hospital and the Edmonton Zone.

The University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry has been internationally recognized as being among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. Alberta Health Services is Canada’s largest and only provincial health region providing services for a population of over 4.2 million people. The University of Alberta Hospital is one of Canada’s leading clinical, research, and teaching hospitals, providing treatment for more than 700,000 patients annually from across Western and Northern Canada.

The Division of Urology is a national leader with surgical areas of expertise that include nearly the entire breadth of the urologic spectrum: general urology, urologic oncology, reconstructive urology, endourology, pediatric urology, female urology, and transplantation. Division members have access to three da Vinci surgical robots, as well as the recently opened Northern Alberta Urology Centre (NAUC), a state-of-the-art ambulatory urologic facility. NAUC’s facilities include lithotripsy, cystoscopy and urodynamics, and a prostate cancer survivorship clinic. In addition to other general and subspecialty urology clinics, there are clinics dedicated to acute stone disease, and a multidisciplinary clinic dedicated to advanced prostate cancer. The clinical focus of the recruit will be on surgery of the male urethra, transitional urology, care of the transgender patient, and male incontinence.

Opportunities for further academic advancement may also be considered in future.

Applicants must hold an MD or equivalent and must be eligible for licensure in the Province of Alberta. The applicant must have obtained the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Fellowship in General Surgery or equivalent and have advanced training or significant experience in male reconstructive urology. The successful candidate will also demonstrate interest in the area of quality improvement.

Remuneration will be on a fee-for service basis with billing directly to Alberta Health.
