Academic Neurology Physician, Acute Stroke Program

The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Neurology invites applications for an academic Stroke physician to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital. The successful applicant will have a major clinical focus, dedicating at least 60% of their time to clinical activity including participation in the Alberta Stroke Program that aligns with the existing strengths of the University, Faculty, Department and Division. The successful candidate will have Stroke fellowship training with or without additional Faculty experience beyond Neurology training. Evidence of scholarly activity (research, publications, successful grant applications or clinical program development) will be required.

Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to 39,000 students and 15,000 faculty and staff. The Division of Neurology currently has 30 Faculty members. It provides clinical services to all acute care facilities in Edmonton, and consultative services to Northern Alberta and western NWT. The Stroke Program has 9 neurologists who deliver acute Stroke care, Telestroke services, Stroke ward management along with academic basic science and clinical research.

The successful candidate will be an MD with certification in Neurology by the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent), and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).

Key accountabilities will include, but will not be limited to: clinical practice of acute Stroke care, Telestroke care, inpatient Stroke care and ambulatory care in the UAH Adult Stroke clinic, classroom and bedside teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate medical trainees, including Neurology subspecialty residents and Stroke fellows. Clinical practice is expected of the successful candidate and may include, but not be limited to, inpatient consultation and participation in Zone wide after hours call; ambulatory care. Other areas of clinical interest may be incorporated into the role.

The successful candidate will be offered a contingent tenured or tenure-track appointment in the Department of Medicine, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement, and offers a comprehensive benefits package. Academic rank will commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Remuneration for this position is based on the Academic Alternative Relationship Plan (A-ARP). Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
