Adult Psychiatrist, Eating Disorders Program

Alberta Health Services in partnership with the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, is inviting applications from Adult Psychiatrist to take on the role of Psychiatrist in the Eating Disorders Program of the University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) in the Department of Addictions and Mental Health.

Alberta Health Services is Canada’s largest and only province-wide health service provider, providing care for more than 3 million people. Our multi-disciplinary teams consisting of nursing, psychiatry, psychology, occupational therapy, social work, education, and speech language pathology provide education and assistance for more than 1.2 million people in Edmonton and surrounding areas

The Edmonton Zone AMH Eating Disorders program is part of the Young Adult Services portfolio. This specialized program provides a continuum of care options for those with various eating disorder behaviors and illnesses.

Psychiatry expertise is required in the following treatment areas: consultation and recommendations to treating physicians, consultation and monitoring, inpatient admissions, day hospital/meal program, and outpatient follow-up care. Individualized care may be required on an emergent, urgent or routine basis. Active participation with the multi-disciplinary team of nurses, dieticians, psychologists, recreation therapist and management is an integral part of the role.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate medical students and/or resident physicians, and will be encouraged to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague appointment, which will be considered through a process with the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry (FoMD).

The candidate will be expected to be involved in AHS and the University of Alberta program development initiatives and will be required to fully utilize AHS IT systems and processes including e-clinician.

The successful candidate will have an MD and must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Psychiatry, for licensure in the province of Alberta.

Remuneration will be based on fee-for-service billings submitted to Alberta Health as well as the sessional billing system.
