Alberta Health Services in partnership with the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, is inviting applications from Physicians who are interested in taking on the position of Clinical Department Facility Chief of Emergency Medicine at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

This 0.4 FTE position reports directly to the Edmonton Zone Clinical Department Head for Emergency Medicine and to the Facility Medical Director, RAH.

The position is being posted initially as a 0.2 FTE and will continue at 0.2 for 3 months when it will transition to 0.4 FTE. The transition period is to allow for several months of mentorship and support from the outgoing RAH ED lead. The successful candidate will have a vision for emergency medicine at RAH and be responsible for leadership at the department, hospital and zone program level, for ensuring that standards of care are met within the department and supporting research and academic responsibilities. This position contributes to the development of policies and criteria for procedures as they relate to Emergency Medicine and recommending privileges for physicians working within the Facility. The Department of Emergency Medicine at the Royal Alexandra presently consists of over 60 full time physicians.

The Royal Alexandra Hospital is one of Edmonton’s largest and longest serving hospitals, offering general and specialized medical and surgical health services, and features one of Canada’s busiest emergency departments. Located in the heart of the City of Edmonton, the Royal Alexandra Hospital provides a wide variety of health services to the City of Edmonton, and surrounding area. The hospital operates 850+ beds and cares for almost half a million patients annually.

The successful candidate will possess superior interpersonal skills, have demonstrated supervisory experience and be an excellent clinician with the respect of his/her peers.

Candidates must be either CCFP (EM) or FRCPC certified, be eligible to work in Canada and hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and an appointment to the AHS Medical Staff.

The successful candidate should be committed to fulfilling clinical and non-clinical duties as a representative of the Department of Emergency Medicine and is encouraged to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague appointment.

Remuneration is in accordance with AHS contractor agreements.
