Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist – Alberta Health Services, Edmonton Zone – Part time

Alberta Health Services, Department of Addiction & Mental Health in partnership with the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Psychiatry, is inviting applications from psychiatrists with expertise in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, preferably with subspecialty certification.

Alberta Health Services is Canada’s largest and only province-wide health service provider, providing care for more than 3 million people. Our partnership together with the Alberta Government’s

investment of more than $50 million in Child Mental Health has provided for significant innovations in our approach to the care we provide. Our multi-disciplinary teams consisting of psychiatry, nursing, psychology, occupational therapy, social work, and speech language pathology provide education and assistance for more than 1.2 million people in Edmonton and surrounding areas.

This position will provide part time child psychiatric consultation and direct services within outpatient settings at various locations in the Edmonton Zone. The psychiatrist will consult with individuals and multidisciplinary teams including;

Developmental Pediatricians Social Workers

Family Physicians Nurses

Psychologists Other Allied Health Providers

The psychiatrist provides consultation for the assessment and treatment of children and adolescents with significant mental health disorders, high risk or complex situations and co-morbid learning problems

An interest in education of medical students and residents is highly desirable as the successful candidate is expected to apply for an Academic Appointment in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Alberta. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the University of Alberta has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions.

Candidates must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Psychiatry, preferably have subspecialty certification or have plans to write the sub specialty exam in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. S/he must also be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

This position is not sponsorship eligible.
