Clinical-ARP Position Pulmonary/Sleep Medicine Physician - 17-UAH-MED-PUL-16

The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary Medicine, in partnership with Alberta Health Services and Covenant Health, invites applications for a Pulmonary/Sleep Medicine Physician to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to more than 38,000 students with more than 15,000 faculty and staff.

The successful candidate will be an MD (or equivalent) with certification in Internal and Pulmonary Medicine with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada, be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) and additional training in Sleep Medicine.

Additional training and/or experience in clinical research is an asset.

The Division of Pulmonary Medicine consists of a team of three PhD, Fourteen MD full-time academic faculty, and five MD clinical members, offering a wide range of clinical programs in Pulmonary Medicine and Allergy. Division members have dedicated asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis, interstitial lung disease, and pleural effusion clinics. The Division also offers General Pulmonary Ambulatory, Consultation, Inpatient Hospital, Tuberculosis, Adult Cystic Fibrosis, Sleep Disorders, Pulmonary Hypertension, and Interventional Pulmonary Medicine Services. The Division’s Lung Transplant Service cares for the largest Lung Transplant population in Canada. The Division has two full time and one part time allergists, and offers a wide array of Adult Allergy Services. Provision of Excellent Patient Care, Education at all levels of the Medical Education continuum, and Basic/Clinical Research are key priorities of the Division.

Key accountabilities of the Respiratory/Sleep Physician will include, but will not be limited to participating in the Division’s clinical roster (including inpatient ward, consultation, and bronchoscopy services), participating in the University of Alberta’s Sleep Center and associated duties (sleep clinics, interpretation of sleep studies, etc.), establishing a General Pulmonary Medicine ambulatory clinic, teaching learners at the undergraduate, residency, and/or subspecialty trainee levels, supporting clinical research/innovation work within the division. As an academic institution, a keen research interest in clinical sleep or pulmonary medicine is expected.

The successful candidate will be offered a clinical ARP position in the Department of Medicine, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement, and offers a comprehensive benefits package.

Remuneration for this position is based on the Clinical Alternative Relationship Plan (A-ARP). Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
