Clinical Academic Position for General Internist with special interest in POCUS in the Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) 18-UAH-MED-GIM-01

The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of GIM in partnership with Alberta Health Services, invites applications for a General Internist with special interest and training in Point-of-care Ultrasound (POCUS) to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to more than 38,000 students with more than 15,000 faculty and staff.

The University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) is one of Edmonton’s largest and longest serving hospitals, offering general and specialized quaternary medical and surgical health services, and featuring one of Canada’s busiest Emergency departments. Located on the University campus, the UAH is one of Canada’s leading health sciences centres serving as the primary and referral site for a diverse community stretching from south Edmonton to western and northern Canada. The hospital operates 650 beds (160 in medicine), cares for over 700,000 patients annually, and employs over 4,800 full-time and part-time staff.

Remuneration for this position is based on the Academic Alternative Relationship Plan (A-ARP). Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

The successful applicant will cover clinical service commitment for General Internal Medicine at the University Hospital. Clinical Services include but are not limited to: inpatient internal medicine clinical teaching and non-teaching units, inpatient and emergency consultations, outpatient urgent access, general medicine and perioperative clinics.

The successful candidate will be an MD (or equivalent) with certification in General Internal Medicine with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada, be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). Additional training and/or experience in POCUS will be an asset for this position.

Key accountabilities of the position will include, but will not be limited to health services delivery and fulfillment of the academic mission of General Internal Medicine through medical education and administration. The job description as it pertains to these areas may be individualized.

The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.
