Candidate for Clinical Generalist for Obstetrics/Gynecology Position:

Alberta Health Services is inviting applications for a General Obstetrician and Gynecologist to join the Lois Hole Hospital for Women. It is a tertiary acute care hospital which consists of 18 Obstetricians/Gynecologists in private practice and 23 sub-specialists, who perform more than 7,000 deliveries and 5,000 gynecological surgeries per year. It offers a dynamic Women’s Health program dedicated to strengthening women’s health services, enhanced teaching, clinical innovation and research.

The Royal Alexandra Hospital is affiliated with the University of Alberta and serves as an important training hospital for residents and students. The successful candidate will be required to apply for a Clinical Academic appointment in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, University of Alberta. This will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry which has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions and is located in Edmonton.

The candidate will be expected to have an active research interest and demonstrated skills in clinical education. Extra training and area of special interest will be required to be considered for this position, and an interest in minimally invasive surgery would be a definite asset. Other areas of special interest and training which would be highly desirable include urogynecology including primary incontinence and laparoscopic vault suspension, as well as Mature Women’s Health, Vulva disease and Pelvic pain. The successful candidate will have superior interpersonal skills and be a proven team player. The ability to work congenially within our group setting is an absolute prerequisite. Minimum obstetrical numbers will be an expectation of the successful candidate, as well as participation in the call roster. Currently 20 Obstetrician Gynecologists participate in the on-call roster, with a planned expansion to 22, with a 2 person in-house on call. One day of Operating Room service per month will be available initially. Remuneration is Fee for Service.
