Alberta Health Services (AHS), Edmonton Zone, invites applications for the role of Deputy Zone Clinical Department Head - Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine – Clinical, Edmonton Zone.
This 0.2 FTE position reports directly to the Edmonton Zone Clinical Department Head (ZCDH) for Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine.
The successful candidate is responsible for assisting the ZCDH in carrying out his/her duties, leading departmental Clinical Service activities and effective delivery of clinical anesthesia services across all AHS sites in the Edmonton zone where anesthetic services are provided. This position provides input into the development of policies and criteria for procedures as it relates to Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine as well as reviewing and recommending privileges for physicians and evaluating the performance of medical staff working within the Department in accordance with policy and Medical Staff By-Laws rules and regulations. The Deputy ZCDH - Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine – Clinical will develop a plan for and promoting department development (faculty and physicians) and will prioritize and champion faculty and physician wellness.
The position of Deputy ZCDH - Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine – Clinical, is a senior Medical Leadership role in the Edmonton Zone providing leadership support to the ZCDH (Anesthesia), contributing expert guidance and advice to matters within the Department of Anesthesia and conducting rigorous performance management and quality improvement. The Deputy ZCDH - Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine – Clinical must effectively collaborate with the Zone Clinical Department Head as well as Department members in achieving these outcomes. Other major accountabilities include:
- Quality Management - ensure the ongoing monitoring of quality clinical/medical practice across sites and ensure effective processes are in place to encourage best practice and improve clinical outcomes;
- Academic Liaison – ensures effective support at the site level for teaching and research where appropriate;
- Resource Management – support recruitment;
- Performance Management – support the performance monitoring of medical staff.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities in communication, conflict resolution and a passion for quality and patient safety. S/he will be an inclusive and visionary leader with significant experience in medical leadership and is considered a strong clinician by peers.
The successful candidate will possess superior interpersonal skills, have demonstrated supervisory experience and be an excellent clinician with the respect of his/her peers.
Candidates must possess a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPSC) fellowship, or equivalent designation, be eligible to work in Canada, and hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and appointment to the AHS Medical Staff. Candidates should have evidence of formal administrative education and training.
Remuneration is in accordance with AHS contractor agreements.
