Alberta Health Services in partnership with the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, is inviting applications from Emergency Medicine Physicians to join the Department of Emergency Medicine in the Edmonton Zone. There is 1 full-time (1.0 FTE) permanent position available with a start date of July 1, 2019.

Shifts will be 8 hours, covering days/evenings/nights/weekends. A 1.0 full-time equivalency (FTE) generally represents 10-12 shifts per month.

The Strathcona Community Hospital is state-of-the-art facility, located just outside of Edmonton in the town of Sherwood Park. The community lies just east of Edmonton and is a busy suburb of the city.

The emergency department will provide 24/7 service with onsite lab and DI. This is a great opportunity for Emergency Physicians interested in building a foundation that promotes the health and well being of the community.

Additional services offered on-site will be a range of ambulatory clinics including: IV Therapy, Orthopedic/Sports Medicine, Low Risk Prenatal, Tobacco Reduction, Teens and Senior’s Health as well as Chronic Disease Management programs, medical consult specialists and support services.

All Edmonton Zone hospitals are affiliated with the University of Alberta, and serve as important training facilities for residents and students. The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. Individuals interested in education of trainees are encouraged to apply for Clinical Academic Colleague appointments in the Academic Department of Emergency Medicine.

The candidate will have exceptional communication skills and a passion for quality and patient safety. They will be considered a strong clinician by their peers. The successful applicant will have, or be eligible for, certification in Emergency Medicine with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada or the College of Family Physicians Canada (FRCPC or CCFP-EM) and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. ACLS, PALS, and ATLS competency are required. Residents must be eligible to write the appropriate exam at the next sitting.

We are particularly interested in those who have superior interpersonal skills with a demonstrated commitment to teamwork, process building and peer relationships. The successful candidate should be committed to fulfilling clinical and non-clinical duties as a representative of the Department of Emergency Medicine.

Remuneration is fee-for-service with a guaranteed minimum.
