Alberta Health Services in partnership with the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, is inviting applications from Emergency Medicine Physicians to join the Department of Emergency Medicine in the Edmonton Zone at the Westview Health Centre. There are up to 5 permanent full-time (1.0 FTE) positions available with a start date of July 1, 2019.

The Westview Health Centre is a community hospital in the town of Stony Plain, located 17 km west of Edmonton. The Emergency Department provides 24/7 services with onsite lab and DI and sees almost 30,000 patient visits per year. This opportunity is perfect for Emergency Physicians interested in building a foundation that promotes the health and well-being within a community, as part of a larger zone.

Shifts are typically eight hours and cover days/evenings/nights/weekends. A 1.0 full-time equivalency (FTE) generally represents 10-12 shifts per month. The facility offers additional on-site services and ambulatory clinics including IV Therapy, Orthopedic Medicine, Tobacco Reduction, medical consult specialists, mental health services and support services.

The 12 Edmonton Zone hospitals (including Westview Health Centre) are affiliated with the University of Alberta, and serve as important training facilities for residents and students. As one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions, the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is internationally recognized and is among the world’s top 50 medical schools. Individuals interested in educating students and trainees are encouraged to apply for Clinical Academic Colleague appointments in the Academic Department of Emergency Medicine.

Successful applicants will have or be eligible for certification in Emergency Medicine with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada or the College of Family Physicians Canada and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Residents who are applying must be eligible to write the appropriate exam at the next sitting. ACLS, PALS, and ATLS competency are required. We are particularly interested in those who have superior interpersonal skills with a demonstrated commitment to teamwork, process building and peer relationships. The successful candidate should be committed to fulfilling clinical and non-clinical duties as a representative of the Department of Emergency Medicine.
