Emergency Medicine Physicians – Royal Alexandra Hospital

Locum Position

18-RAH-EM-LOCUM-14

Alberta Health Services in partnership with the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, is inviting applications from Emergency Medicine Physicians to join the Department of Emergency Medicine in the Edmonton Zone for a 0.50 FTE Locum position up to a maximum of a 12 month term.

The Royal Alexandra Hospital is an approximately 850 bed facility located in the heart of the City of Edmonton. As an inner city tertiary trauma centre, the emergency department provides 24/7 service to over 73,000 patients per year. This is an exciting opportunity for Emergency Physicians interested in developing their critical care and trauma experience, as well as witnessing the rewards of treating patients who are challenged by social circumstance, addictions and mental health issues. The RAH ED prides itself in building a foundation that promotes the health and well being of the community.

The Royal Alexandra hospital has a full suite of consultant services available on site, and is also the major referral centre in Northern Alberta for Women’s Health, Thoracic surgery, Bariatics and Opthalmology. As a teaching facility for a variety of health care learners, you will also interact with students in many disciplines.

All Edmonton Zone hospitals are affiliated with the University of Alberta, and serve as important training facilities for residents and students. The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. Applicants are expected to participate in education of trainees and are encouraged to apply for Clinical Academic Colleague appointments in the Academic Department of Emergency Medicine.

Shifts will be 8 hours, covering days/evenings/nights/weekends. A full time schedule generally represents 5-6 clinical shifts per month.

Successful applicants will have CCFP-EM or FRCP-EM certification and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Current emergency medicine residents who are applying must be eligible to write the appropriate exam at the next sitting.

All physicians hired to the Department of Emergency Medicine are required to have current ACLS, ATLS, and PALS certification or certification must be completed within 6 months of hire.

We are particularly interested in those who have superior interpersonal skills with a demonstrated commitment to teamwork, process building and peer relationships. The successful candidate should be committed to fulfilling clinical and non-clinical duties as a representative of the Department of Emergency Medicine.

Remuneration is fee-for-service.

The competition will remain open until the positions are filled. Interested persons who meet the above qualifications should forward 1) their curriculum vitae, and 2) the names and contact information of three references, one of which should be your prior chief of service or program director to:
