Alberta Health Services (AHS), Edmonton Zone invites applications for the role of Facility Medical Director (FMD), New Edmonton Hospital (NEH).

This 0.5 FTE position, governed by the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules reports directly to Zone Medical Director.

Facility Medical Director, NEH

This is a unique and rare opportunity to guide the creation and launch of a significant new health facility in Edmonton. Along with a dedicated planning team including other AHS representatives and Alberta Infrastructure, the FMD is accountable to have the NEH ready for occupancy with operational plans reflecting the new model of care and service integration with the Edmonton Zone. The FMD will work closely with the a Capital Management Sr Project Director who will help lead the work as we partner with INFRA to plan, design, and build a new state of the art hospital and health campus. The FMD works within the AHS clinical dyad model of administrative and physician co-leads, with the Operations Director, to advance accessible and quality-focused health services in a sustainable manner.

Together with the Senior Project Director an Operations Director, the FMD is accountable for the development, implementation, and evaluation of NEH specific strategic and operational plans that are aligned with the strategic direction of Alberta Health Services and support the highest possible quality of patient care.

Under the direction of the Zone Medical Director, and in collaboration with the operational dyad, the FMD leads the medical planning of the NEH and supporting the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services.

The FMD along with the Senior Project Director and Operations Director establishes and maintains constructive, strategic relationships with key internal and external stakeholder including: local, provincial and national representatives, the University of Alberta, Alberta Infrastructure and healthcare stakeholders including

Government departments and officials, in order to provide project leadership, lend advice, and provide oversight of related programs and services in the province.

The FMD (together with the Senior Project Director and Operations Director), is responsible for:

• Leadership and operational planning of all NEH departments;

• Maintenance of strong relationships with provincial leaders, zone leaders and hospitals in the Edmonton Zone and across the province; and

• Working with other Provincial Clinical and Corporate Support Services leaders to ensure that their service requirements are addressed at the NEH; Zonal Programs, Cancer Care, Pharmacy, Lab, Diagnostic Imaging, Capital Management, Quality, Finance, CPSM.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities in communication, conflict resolution and a passion for quality and patient safety working as a part of a leadership team. S/he will be an inclusive and visionary leader with significant experience in medical leadership and is considered a strong clinician by peers.

Candidates must be Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) certified, be eligible to work in Canada, and hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and appointment to the AHS Medical Staff. Candidates should have evidence of formal administrative education and training.
