The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases in partnership with Alberta Health Services and Covenant Health, invites applications for a fee for service Infectious Diseases Physician to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions.

The Division of Infectious Diseases includes 28 Faculty members. It provides clinical services to all acute care facilities in Edmonton, and consultative services to Northern Alberta and western NWT. There are established specialty programs in Infection Control, Antimicrobial Stewardship, HIV/AIDS, Transplant Infectious Diseases, Viral Hepatitis, Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT), tuberculosis as well as a close relationship with Provincial and regional microbiology laboratories, and regional Public Health officials. The Division boasts one of the longest running and most highly regarded Canadian postgraduate training programs in Infectious Diseases. Members of the Division are actively engaged in clinical trials, epidemiologic, outcomes, translational and basic science research.

Key accountabilities of the Infectious Diseases physician will include, but will not be limited to inpatient ID consultation (minimum 8 weeks per year), ambulatory care, including general ID clinics and OPAT, and participation in an equitable share of afterhours call. Other areas of clinical interest, including but not limited to, longitudinal care of persons living with HIV/AIDS; management of patients with chronic viral hepatitis, tuberculosis, may be incorporated into the role. Clinical teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate medical trainees, including Infectious Diseases subspecialty residents is also expected. Contribution to clinical leadership opportunities in the Division and/or at the site is also expected.

The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

The successful candidate will have an MD degree, or equivalent. He or she will be eligible to be certification in Infectious Diseases with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada. As well, he or she will be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).

Remuneration will be based on the Fee-for-Service (FFS) schedule.
