Palliative Care Physician – 0.4 FTE

Covenant Health, in association with Alberta Health Services, is inviting applications for a Palliative Care physician with the Edmonton Zone Palliative Care Program, to be based at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta.

Covenant is Canada’s largest Catholic provider of health care, with 26 Catholic facilities in 15 communities across Alberta. As a major provider in Alberta’s integrated health system, the Covenant family (Covenant Health, Covenant Care, and Covenant Living) works with Alberta Health Services and community partners to positively influence the health of Albertans through a broad range of programs and services in our hospitals, health centres and continuing care centres.

The successful applicant will work with the Covenant Health Palliative Care consult service providing consult services at the Grey Nuns and Misericordia Hospitals. At the direction of the Palliative Care Facility Chief – Grey Nuns Hospital, there may be intermittent requirements to work in the Tertiary Palliative Care Unit at the Grey Nuns Hospital.

Duties will include completion of new consults and follow up visits. These visits will be in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. Service will be provided for 3 to 5 days during the standard work week (Monday to Friday). The successful applicant will also share on call responsibility for after-hours call during the week. Participation in the city wide weekend on call service is also expected.

Candidates must have an MD or equivalent and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Specialty training in an accredited Palliative Care residency program is required.

This position will not support a practice readiness assessment.
