Pediatric Cardiac Intensivist – Stollery Children’s Hospital - .75 FTE

The Division of Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care at the Stollery Children’s Hospital, Department of Child Health Alberta Health Services, together with the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Department of Pediatrics at the University of Alberta is offering a 0.75 FTE Pediatric Cardiac Intensivist position in the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at the Stollery Children’s Hospital.

The Stollery Children's Hospital provides quaternary support to a vast geographic region encompassing much of Western Canada. The Stollery Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit provides care to over 400 pediatric pump cases a year, and with more than 500 admissions a year. The unit is responsible for providing a full array of cardiac critical care services in support of the children of Northern Alberta and the Western Canadian Children's Heart Network (encompassing patients from British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut, as well as Alberta). Our program prides itself on excellent clinical outcomes and is in the process of developing a new state of the art 16 bed pediatric cardiac ICU opening November 2017, to replace our current 12 bed unit, with the capacity to expand our program to 25 beds. The Stollery Hospital is home to very successful and active ECLS service, pediatric VAD and Pediatric Heart Transplant programs, and has excellent echo, fetal and interventional cardiac catheterization services.

The successful candidate will have an MD qualification, and primary Royal College of Physicians of Canada Certification in Anesthesia, Cardiology or Pediatrics as well as further Royal College of Physicians of Canada Certification in Pediatric Intensive Care or equivalent. In addition a further minimum of one year training or experience in specialist Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care is required. A strong interest in education and training in the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care environment would be an asset as we continue to develop a Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Fellowship and leadership in this area is one of the goals of this position.

The unit supports a Royal College training Program in Pediatric Critical Care as well as both a one year Clinical Fellowship position in Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care and the 2 year Madden Deluca Clinical Research Fellowship. As a result while this is a primary clinical position all staff physicians are expected to take part in education and research activities as well as supporting the administrative duties of the unit
