The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, in partnership with Alberta Health Services invites individuals to apply for a clinical faculty position within the divisions of Pediatric Hospital Medicine and iHOPE in the section of Palliative Care in the Department of Pediatrics.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will join a group of five academic hospital medicine pediatricians and 12 academic and community pediatrician colleagues who provide a full spectrum of inpatient pediatrics in a clinical teaching environment, and consultative support to surgical and pediatric colleagues. The successful candidate will also be working with a group of five physicians who provide palliative care services to pediatric patients. In addition to clinical care, both divisions are very active in teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and contribute significantly to the fully accredited Pediatric residency, through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

The position will be comprised of approximately 70% clinical service and 30% academic and teaching pursuits. Distribution of time will be equal between the two divisions. The successful candidate will be expected to participate equitably in the home call schedules of both divisions. This individual will also be involved in teaching activities, in addition to clinical teaching, and other activities such as quality improvement and patient safety.

The successful applicants shall hold an MD and have or be eligible for certification in Pediatrics with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Completion of a clinical fellowship in Academic or Hospital Medicine, or demonstration of an interest in hospital-based care (work experience or training electives) is preferred, but not required. Additional training in pediatric palliative care is required. Applicants must have the ability to function effectively in highly collaborative multi-disciplinary teams.

Remuneration for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and will be based on the income scale of a competitive and highly successful academic alternate funding plan.
