Alberta Health Services (AHS), Edmonton Zone invites applications for the role of Zone Clinical Section Chief, General Obstetrics and Gynecology, Women’s Health.

This 0.2 to 0.4 FTE (depending on scope of position and candidate) position governed by the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules, reports to the Zone Clinical Department Head, Women’s Health (ZCDH). The successful candidate will assist the Zone Clinical Department Head with quality issues as well as assisting the Facility Medical Director with operational matters.

The Section Chief General Obstetrics and Gynecology is a leadership role contributing guidance and advice for strategic planning, project development and quality care for patients receiving clinical care through the Section of General Obstetrics and Gynecology. This medical-administrative leader will work with the medical leadership team contributing expert guidance and advice to matters within the Department of Women’s Health; and conducting rigorous performance management and quality improvement.

This leader position is accountable for ensuring effective support at the site level for teaching and research, promoting educational programs and developing/promoting departmental research activities for Zone Clinical Section members and other staff associated with the Zone Clinical Section, patient safety, quality management and more. The role will also support recruitment and retention of physicians to the section, and liaise with Zone Councils and other site medical leaders.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities in communication, conflict resolution and a passion for quality and patient safety. S/he will be an inclusive and visionary leader with significant experience in medical leadership and is considered a strong clinician by peers.

The successful candidate will possess superior interpersonal skills, have demonstrated supervisory experience and be an excellent clinician with the respect of his/her peers. The successful candidate also will be committed to fulfilling clinical and non-clinical duties as a representative of the Department of Women’s Health.

Candidates must be Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) certified, be eligible to work in Canada, and hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and appointment to the AHS Medical Staff. Candidates should have evidence of formal administrative education and training.

Remuneration is in accordance with AHS contractor agreements.
