The rTMS psychiatrist is a key member of the multidisciplinary team within the Day Hospital. The successful candidate must have training in rTMS and had demonstrated a strong pedigree in research relevant to rTMS. The main responsibilities of the rTMS psychiatrist include: active participation in Neuromodulation research; utilizing practical and theoretical knowledge necessary for administering rTMS; assessment and management of patients receiving rTMS; demonstrating an understanding of the operational theories/procedures and evaluating the performance characteristics of rTMS equipment; communicating with patients regarding treatment procedures, benefits and side effects; monitoring treatment progress; liaising with other members of the care team regarding treatment scheduling and integration of rTMS treatments with other aspects of patient care; participating in professional development, teaching/education activities, safety and quality improvement programs to ensure excellence in the provision of rTMS; The candidate is expected to perform cross-functional duties as assigned by the Facility Medical Director.

Alberta Hospital Edmonton is a 334-bed, fully accredited facility offering Adult, Rehabilitation and Forensic Psychiatric inpatient and community services. The Adult Psychiatry Service, which serves the Edmonton zone including Northern Alberta, consists of 100 acute admission beds, 102 rehabilitation beds and an active community program.

The rTMS (repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation) clinic is a unique and busy service within the Edmonton Zone Day Hospital based in the Alberta Hospital Edmonton. The rTMS clinic provides assessment, treatment and navigation services to those who are experiencing mood disorders. The clinic is part of the Edmonton Zone initiative of enhancing patient care and efficient hospital bed utilization.

The successful candidate must have or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Preferred candidates will have an adult psychiatry background and preference will be given to candidates with specialist qualifications, FRCPC or equivalent. Clinical research experience is desirable, but not mandatory.

Remuneration will be based on fee-for-service billings submitted to Alberta Health and supplemented by sessional payments.
