The Department of Rural Medicine and the Department of Surgery, Alberta Health Services- Calgary Zone, and the University of Calgary, invite applications for the position of Ophthalmologic Surgeon, 0.4 full time equivalent, at the High River Hospital, Alberta.

The successful candidate will become a member of the Calgary Zone Department of Rural Medicine Section of High River and the Department of Surgery Section of Ophthalmology.

Committee duties and active participation in the Sections is required.

The Ophthalmologic Surgeon will be expected to have a clinical appointment with the University of Calgary, Cummings School of Medicine and to participate in medical student and resident teaching.

This position will complete approximately 150 Cataract surgeries per year at High River Hospital.

Qualifications include an MD, a fellowship in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Ophthalmology. Applicants must be eligible for medical licensure in Alberta. The successful candidate must have demonstrated specific proficiency in all aspects of cataract surgery (with and without intraocular lenses).

The successful candidate will have previously demonstrated leadership skills in an academic environment and shown an interest in teaching and clinical research. Additional training in the areas of either medical education or clinical epidemiology is considered an asset.

The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

Must read, write and speak English.

Fee for Service

The Practitioner is responsible for purchasing health and insurance benefits.

Continuing Medical Education reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible Practitioner receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for three years.
