The Department of Oncology, Cancer Control Alberta, Alberta Health Services in conjunction with Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary invite applications for a full-time clinician/clinician scientist within the discipline of Hematology and Hematological Malignancies at the Assistant Professor level. The successful applicant will become a member of a multidisciplinary cancer program located at the Margery E.Yuill Cancer Centre (MEYCC) site in Medicine Hat, and will join a team of Medical and Radiation Oncologists, Nurse Practitioners and medical support staff working in the South Zone.

The MEYCC is one o Alberta's five Regional Cancer Centres. Serving Southern Alberta and Southeastern British Columbia and Southwestern Saskatchewan, the centre delivers a wide range of state of the art treatment and care to cancer patients including outpatient chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and access to clinical trials, education and psychosocial support. Cancer care practice at the MEYCC is centered around 7 major tumour groups with rarer tumours managed in conjunction with consultation and expertise from the tertiary centers in Calgary and Edmonton.

The MEYCC operate within a provincial framework for cancer care supported by provincial clinical guidelines and standards, focused on patient centered care. Hematologists are expected to participate in local and provincial tumour team based activities including clinical case reviews at tumour board rounds, annual, provincial tumour team meetings, local quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives and educational programs and are supported by a network of hematologists and Medical Oncologists province wide.

Medicine Hat is a growing community of 63,018 people in southeast Alberta. Located 169 km east of Lethbridge and 295 km southeast of Calgary, Medicine Hat and the adjacent Town of Redcliff are surrounded by Cypress County. Often described as an oasis in the midst of the prairies, the historic city of Medicine Hat is known as the sunniest city in Alberta with Aberta's longest growing season.

The South Health Zone includes two hospitals situated in Lethbridge and Medicine Hat, and serves residents of Southern Alberta, and portions of British Columbia and Saskatchewan. The Department of Oncology is part of the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary and is dedicated to supporting the growth of clinical service delivery and comprehensive cancer care including research and education.

Qualifications include a MD, FRCPC or equivalent with training in Hematology. Additional training in Malignant Hematology or a Malignant Hematology subspecialty would be an asset. The successful applicant will have or be eligible for certification in Hematology and Internal Medicine with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

Remuneration will depend on clinical experience and comply with the agreement between Cancer Control Alberta, Alberta Health Services and the Alberta Medical Association. Split compensation arrangement:

60% AHS Clinical Stipend $188,869 - $190,852 - $274,725 per annum based on qualification and experience 40% Fee for Service (FFS arrangement)

The Practitioner is responsible for purchasing health and insurance benefits.

Continuing Medical Education reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible Practitioner receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for three years.
