Alberta Health Services, South Zone is seeking to recruit a full-time Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital and in the community. Psychiatric services include inpatient and outpatient consultations, a number of community based programs including involvement with local schools, mental health clinics (within Medicine Hat and rural sites) and other community resources. Remuneration is fee for service. Recruitment package may be available.

Medicine Hat is a city of 65,000 + with a drawing population of 110,000 + and is known as the sunniest city in Canada. Medicine Hat is an excellent family community with good schools, and a community college. There is a wide range of cultural and recreational facilities in the area. The community offers a good quality of life and substantial advantages for a rewarding career and a great family life.

Travel Time:

To Edmonton: approx. 6 hrs
To Calgary: approx. 3 hrs
To Red Deer: approx 4.5 hrs
To Lethbridge: approx 1.5 hrs

Travel Alberta

Candidates must hold certification or additional training in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.

Successful candidates must hold or be eligible for independent practitioner registration with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta and hold certification or be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Alberta Medical Association (AMA) Incentives

Retention Benefit - supports and promotes the retention of physicians in Alberta by rewarding their continuous years of service to Albertans. Physicians receive between $4,840 and $12,100 depending on their years of service to Albertans.

Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.

Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,500 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.

Parental Leave Program via Alberta Medical Association - provides $1,000 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.

Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
