AHS is recruiting for this position.
This position is eligible for AHS sponsorship. The successful applicant will be granted AHS sponsorship support for a CPSA Practice Readiness Assessment, if required.

This position works collaboratively with the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital Unit, Emergency Department as well as the Medicine Hat Adult Community Mental Health Team. The position involves the provision of clinical services to 31 inpatient mental health beds as well as outpatient services in a variety of settings including private office practice, interdisciplinary clinics, telepsychiatry, consultation programs, ECT and a recently opened 16-bed Detoxification and Residential Treatment Centre.

The successful candidate is required to provide 1:4 adult psychiatry in-patient call coverage with Specialist on Call payments in accordance with the Alberta Medical Association agreement.

Candidates must have a fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry. Candidate must be able to practice General Psychiatry as well as Geriatric Psychiatry as determined by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Preference will be given to candidates with administrative training and/or experience. Canadian-trained or Western trained physicians will be given preference.

Successful candidates must hold or be eligible for independent practitioner registration with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta. Must hold certification or be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Psychiatry.

Canadian citizens and/or permanent residents of Canada will be given priority.

Fee for Service.

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside this community of $0 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0% for insured services provided in this community.

Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.

Retention Benefit - supports and promotes the retention of physicians in Alberta by rewarding their continuous years of service to Albertans. Physicians receive between $4,840 and $12,100 depending on their years of service to Albertans.

Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.

Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,500 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.

Parental Leave Program - provides $1,000 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.

Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
