Alberta Health Services, South Zone is currently seeking a 0.75 FTE Family Physician for the Milk River Health Centre. This recruitment will establish and maintain a full Rural Medicine (Family Practice/with Admitting privileges) clinic in the community of Milk River, a 0.75 FTE practice is defined as providing clinical activities a minimum of thirty (30) hours per week. Will provide call support as per AHS call schedules and expectations including ER on call rotation for Rural Medicine practices in the South Zone at Milk River. Will also participate in quality improvement programs and initiatives undertaken within the ZCD Rural Medicine. Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, the Rules and AHS policies. Will join and be an active member with the Primary Care Network. Work collaboratively with peers and care team colleagues as a member of the Zone Clinical Department of Rural Medicine at the Milk River Health Centre in support of patient care.

The Community of Milk River is not just one town. The service area also includes the County of Warner, Village of Coutts, Village of Warner and six close surrounding Hutterite colonies. - All within a matter of 15-20 minutes of Milk River!

We enjoy a safe lifestyle in our community. While we enjoy the peace and serenity of rural living, we are also close to the amenities of the city located in Lethbridge (about 45 min from Milk River). We are renowned for our friendliness and hospitality.

The entire geographical area is considered semi-arid, with an average precipitation of 10 inches annually. This means that we generally enjoy mild winters and long, hot summers!

It is an agricultural area and many families have lived here for three or four generations. As well, the Town of Milk River has enjoyed a recent immigration of new families seeking affordable housing in a town with several amenities.

(2011 Census) and is located 85 km south of the city of Lethbridge and approximately 15 km North of the Montana / United States border.

CCFP Desired

Must be eligible for a College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta license.

Must be eligible to apply to the CPSA for the Provisional Register Conditional Practice as a General Practitioner or be recognized as a specialist in Family Medicine.

Preference will be given to general practice physicians with recent training and/or experience (within 2 years) in Emergency situations.

Full scope general practice

Preference will be given to Canadian-trained and/or equivalently trained physicians

Preference given to those with recent rural experience

Preference will be given to Canadians and Permanent Residents of Canada

Compensation Type: Fee-for-Service

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside in this community of $8508.96 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 7.90% for insured services provided in this community.

Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.

Retention Benefit - supports and promotes the retention of physicians in Alberta by rewarding their continuous years of service to Albertans. Physicians receive between $5,141 and $12,852 depending on their years of service to Albertans.

Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.

Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.

Parental Leave Program via Alberta Medical Association - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.

Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
