“Quality Care: Anytime, Anywhere”. The Alberta Health Services Virtual Health is inviting interested candidates to apply for this exciting opportunity. The Medical Lead reports to the Provincial Medical Director, Virtual Health. The incumbent will act as a catalyst within the health system, and the medical community specifically, to facilitate the integration of Virtual Health into patient care delivery consistent with improving health outcomes, improving provider and patient experiences and increasing system effectiveness. The Medical Lead will actively support clinicians to provide patient-centered and evidence-informed care using existing and new innovative technologies.

The Medical Lead, Virtual Health will work in close partnership with the Provincial Director and Program Managers to advance the vision and strategic directions of Virtual Health, drive the development of a roadmap, and ensure virtual health is coordinated and integrated into care delivery models in Alberta. Together, the Virtual Health leadership team is jointly responsible to develop, implement, and evaluate the provincial Virtual Health strategy, as well as inform the priorities for the Virtual Health business plan.

This position is accountable for identifying, building and maintaining collaborative relationships with key sector stakeholders, academic partners, and health care communities for the development and spread of Virtual Health services. Through significant interaction with internal and external partners and participants, the successful candidate will influence the direction of key initiatives leading to increased coordination, value, and utilization of virtual care technology and processes.

Quality improvement and experience in population-based health outcome assessment is an important aspect of this role. The Medical Lead is accountable to identify and support new or modified approaches, practices, and processes to integrate Virtual Health into clinical practice, as well as monitor success of such practices through qualitative assessment. Through collaboration with patients, families, and care providers, this important leadership position ensures that all components of a successful Virtual Health program are developed and enhanced, including improving clinical processes and program evaluation. The Medical Lead, Virtual Health monitors other virtual health and telemedicine programs in other jurisdictions to stay current of opportunities and emerging technologies, to benchmark virtual health practices in Alberta against peers.

We are seeking applicants with previous leadership experience and/or medical administration experience, with an interest in technology, change and innovation. The applicant should demonstrate ability to apply critical thinking and problem solving skills, have experience in leading successful change, and show excellent verbal and written skills, attention to detail, organization, and time management skills. The successful candidate will have a track record of maintaining strong working relationships with clinical leaders, department directors and staff to enable integration and growth of virtual health technology. Applicants must be eligible to be a member of the AHS Medical Staff.

This is a 0.2 FTE Medical Leadership position which will report and is accountable to the Provincial Medical Director, Virtual Health. Remuneration will be in accordance with the AHS Medical Leadership Compensation Grid.
