Work in a shared leadership model with North Zone Addiction & Mental Health, through cooperation and collaboration. Provide effective and consistent communication to support rural primary care physicians across the North Zone.

  • Ensure active two way communication of key information between the lead and primary care physicians wishing to access consultation and support to address the recommendations of the child psychiatrist;
  • Collaborate with the medical leads, child and youth team members by leading and focusing child psychiatry in-services and discussions to build physician capacity to effectively support children in their home community.
  • Connect with ZCDH Addictions and Mental Health Leadership quarterly with focused discussion on North Zone Children’s Mental Health Virtual Program.
  • Ensure that, in a timely manner and on an ongoing basis, the Psychiatry Lead reviews recommendations and concerns regarding the North Zone Children’s Mental Health Virtual Program raised by rural primary care physicians, with a focus on providing assistance with understanding the recommendations and developing treatment plans to effectively support children and their families;
  • Be available by phone or SKYPE to consult and build capacity with rural primary care physicians regarding patient care;
  • Provide support to North Zone Virtual Children’s Mental Health Program team members;

Advocate for the provision of high quality and safe patient care in the North Zone Children’s Mental Health Virtual Program including:

  • Encourage the commitment of rural primary care physicians to best practice standards; including Appropriateness of Care initiatives, and SCN guidelines/policies;
  • Promote the most effective utilization of resources;
  • Build capacity for enhanced culture of patient safety with promotion of a positive and continuous improvement safety culture.
  • Collaborate with North Zone physician groups to work through issues and challenges and make recommendations for improvements;
  • Facilitate and promote training for rural primary care physicians to build their knowledge and skills to assist in managing child psychiatry issues;
  • Encourage the active participation of North Zone physicians in teaching and assessment activities,
  • Network and develop relationships with child psychiatrists across Alberta, in an effort to plan for future capacity for North Zone Children’s Mental Health Virtual Program;
  • Collaborate with Primary Care Network Team as appropriate and feasible.

The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

Compensation will be determined by the AHS Physician Lead Compensation Grid and will be commensurate with the responsibilities of the position, the time required to fulfill these responsibilities, and the skills/experience of the successful application.
